High achiever scholarships

An automatic scholarship, worth ￡2,500* per annum (January and July 2017 entry) and ￡2,000* per annum (from September 2017) is available to undergraduate Home (UK/EU) students (excluding Medicine) achieving ABB (AAB from September 2017) or above (or equivalent) in their A Levels (excluding General Studies). The scholarship is dependent on you making Buckingham your firm UCAS choice, or making a firm acceptance of a direct offer of a place.

The scholarship will be reviewed after the preliminary and subsequent examinations and will continue if your average mark is in the upper second or first class range.

Postgraduate first class scholarship

A postgraduate scholarship is available to home and international students holding a First class Bachelor’s Honours degree that is recognised to UK standard. It will be automatically awarded to applicants of taught postgraduate degrees who have achieved a first class bachelor’s degree or the equivalent level qualification from other countries. The scholarship will reduce tuition fees by 33%.

Five counties scholarships

A scholarship, worth ￡2,500* per annum (January and July 2017 entry) and ￡2,000* per annum (from September 2017) is available to undergraduate students (excluding foundation) from the following counties:Buckinghamshire (including Milton Keynes),Bedfordshire,Northamptonshire,Oxfordshire,Hertfordshire.

To qualify, you must meet the conditions of your offer and make Buckingham your firm UCAS choice, or make a firm acceptance of a direct offer of a place. You must be living in one of the five counties listed at the time you make your application. You are not eligible for this award if you hold another scholarship from the University.

Our Five Counties scholarships are only available to students on two-year courses. Students studying medicine will receive this for their first two years at Buckingham.

Buckingham bursaries

From September 2016, UK students (excluding Medicine) in receipt of a maintenance loan of ￡5,000 or more per annum will receive an automatic bursary of ￡1,100 per annum. We will confirm eligibility once our Student Fees Administrator has seen the Student Loan Company statement.

Funded scholarships

Further funded scholarships and bursaries are awarded annually across all schools of study (excluding Medicine), and represent a partial remission from tuition fees. Awards range from ￡500 – ￡2,500 and will be conditional upon satisfactory progress at each stage of study. We are unable to offer any assistance towards living expenses (with the exception of the Coase Scholarships).

Funded scholarships are in recognition of academic achievement and applications are invited from those with a strong academic background and who are predicted to do well in their examinations. Bursaries are means-tested and are intended for those who need a contribution towards their fees in order to study at Buckingham.

International law scholarship

This is a scholarship worth 25% of the LLB International fees. Those eligible are applicants:

for LLB programmes;

who have to pay International fees (principally non-EU students); and

who already have a good first degree (such as a first class or upper second class degree, or what we would assess to be the equivalent such as GPA of 3.3 (B+) or higher based on a maximum GPA of 4 (A+) (depending on your university’s grading scale)).

Any applicant who satisfies the eligibility criteria will automatically be considered for an award of the scholarship. There is no need to make a separate application. Note however that this scholarship is a discretionary award rather than an automatic one. A scholarship can only be offered to applicants who are offered a place to study on one of the LLB programmes. Any such offer of a place to study will make clear if a scholarship is also being offered. Any awards are subject to abiding by the University’s rules and regulations. The University reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship if a student’s academic progress while at the University is considered by the University to be unsatisfactory.

At the 2017/18 fee levels, this scholarship would reduce the annual tuition fee from ￡17,160 to ￡12,870 (based on a September 2017 / January 2018 start). This scholarship is of particular interest to applicants from jurisdictions where law is usually a postgraduate subject, like Canada, the US, and India.

Coase Scholarships

Up to seven scholarships per year are available.

Students receiving Coase Scholarships will be able to study at the University of Buckingham and at the same time avoid some of the debt that typically awaits university graduates.

Fees at Buckingham over 9 terms are ￡24,888 (compared with ￡27,000 at many other comparable institutions). The Coase Scholarships have a value of ￡10,000. The remaining fees at 2016 prices are therefore ￡14,888 all of which can be covered by a student loan.

University of Buckingham Coase Scholars can follow one of the following nine-term degree programmes which start in October:Economics,Business Economics,Economics, Business and Law,Politics, Economics and Law,Economics with History,Politics with Economics,Economics with Politics,Politics and Economics.

Coase Scholarships are available for courses that finish after nine consecutive terms (in December) and for conventional three-year variants which finish in June (with two summer long vacations).

Scholarship candidates should be UK citizens and should have, or expect to achieve, three A-level passes with at least one of these graded at A or A*.

Selection will be by interview.
